The Waterloo Center for the Arts is pleased to host the Haitian Art Conference which will feature exhibitions, performances, a symposium, catered dinner and bus tour to visit other area collections. Holding the largest public collection of Haitian art in the country (over 800 pieces), the Waterloo Center for the Arts is also marking its 30th anniversary of collecting, presenting and interpreting Haitian art.


SCHEDULE

Friday, September 26
Using the Center’s Haitian collection as a
framework, artists, scholars, gallerists and
collectors will examine and discuss Haitian and
other Afro-Caribbean art; its spiritualism, cosmology, iconography and evolution. An evening reception celebrating new installations of Haitian art throughout the Waterloo Center for the Arts will feature food, Caribbean music, and a Haitian Market featuring fine art available for purchase.


Saturday, September 27
Through scholarly presentations, guided tours and panel discussions, participants will have the opportunity to enhance their understanding and gain new perspectives on Afro-Caribbean art and culture. In the evening, participants are invited to join us for cocktails and an elegant catered Caribbean banquet.

Saturday, September 28
The conference will hit the road to view a Haitian Art exhibition at the Lowe Park Art Center in Marion and a special guided tour of the Haitian collection at Davenport’s new Figge Museum. The itinerary also includes visits to additional exhibitions and private collections.

September 29 & 30
Join us for an overnight bus tour to view Haitian
art collections in Milwaukee and Chicago.
