VERTIGO | INCOGNITO
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
PERFORMANCE ART SERIES 2009
An international collection of artists exploring some element of disguise, to expand your definition of art. All performances start at 7:00 pm and free of charge.

OCT | 09 | 7PM
Malcolm T. Smith, Berkeley, CA
In his performance, humanimalsolar, Macolm Smith
melds magic actions, parody of the self and spoofs on the economy. Through masks and mirrors, signals and noise, a morphed hybrid entity takes shape and explores ideas about extending the senses in a landscape of layered images from pop culture, folk tales, history and art.

OCT | 29 | 7PM
Jason Sweet, Atlanta, GA
Waterloo native and UNI alumnus Jason Sweet returns to Iowa to present a performance entitled “Sigao!” about the internal and external ambiguities of personal identity. Influenced by the Fluxus approach to art, Sweet’s piece will consist of several simultaneous performances within a single performance.

OCT | 30 | 7PM
Tim Bromage, Cardiff, Wales, UK
Born in Suffolk, England, Bromage will be presenting Bad Teef. His art explores sin, redemption, magic and machismo. Often ambiguous in their meaning, Bromage’s performances can be seen as both ridiculous and unsettling. WCA is not responsible for clown-centered nightmares that may haunt viewers after the performance.

NOV | 06 | 7PM
Mari Novotny-Jones, Boston, MA
Mari Novotny-Jones creates performances that explore the ways in which ritual and ceremony alter perceptions of life and reality. She has presented work all over the globe, most recently in China, Italy, Macedonia, Croatia and Poland. Photo by Bob Raymond
